IUS Hosts Inspiring Earth Day Events Emphasizing Sustainable Development
In celebration of Earth Day on April 22, 2024, the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) organized a dynamic series of activities dedicated to sustainable development and environmental conservation.
The event featured prominent figures in the field of sustainable development within Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond, who delivered captivating lectures: Emina Hadžimuhamedović and Ema Mehić, experts from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, joined by Amra Fetahović from the Economic Planning Directorate, presented an insightful lecture titled "Navigating through Sustainable Development: Insight into the SDG Journey of Bosnia and Herzegovina." This session provided valuable perspectives on the country's progress towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Diplomat Sara Lindegren, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden in Bosnia and Herzegovina, shared a comprehensive review of Sweden's achievements in sustainable cities and communities, drawing on extensive international experience.
As part of the Earth Day festivities, IUS launched a captivating photo contest titled "NATURALLY" for students. Participants were encouraged to capture the beauty of nature, showcasing serene landscapes, vibrant sunsets, delicate flora, wildlife scenes, and captivating wilderness. The contest, offering three cash prizes, will accept submissions until May 15, 2024. The winning photographs will be showcased in an exhibition at IUS by the end of May.
These engaging events not only celebrated Earth Day but also reflected IUS's commitment to advancing sustainable development and raising awareness about environmental issues. They align closely with the university's strategic objectives in promoting social responsibility, education, and global awareness among students and staff regarding sustainable development challenges both locally and worldwide.
